Common FAQ

What happens if I have to cancel my appointment?
We require 24 hours notice for cancellations or we have to charge for the session. We do our best to accommodate everyone in a timely fashion and if you’re experiencing an emergency, please just call and we may be able to make an exception.
Are peels too aggressive for my skin?
Peels come in varying strengths and are derived from many sources. A peel can be so gentle that it can be done 3 times a week. Or they can get more aggressive and should only be done once/week or sometimes, it may need to be provided by a medical practitioner. Either way, peels can be very good for you skin… let’s discuss the best option for you.
What is the difference between AHA, glycolic or AFA peels?
Glycolic acid is a form of AHA, usually derived from sugar cane.  Other AHA’s include mandelic acid, made from bitter almonds, citric acid, malic acid (from apples) and lactic acid. Peels are usually not sun-safe. AFA is an Amino Acid Filaggrin based Antioxidant.  A Filaggrin is a protein that occurs in the upper layer of the skin which is responsible for the skin’s ability to retain moisture. The skin can safely take a much higher percentage of AFA’s than any other acid peel. AFA peels don’t actually “peel” and they are SUN-SAFE!
Is there any downtime after being treated with lasers?

Erythema (redness) and slight edema (swelling) are very normal after having a laser treatment and usually resolve after a day or two. However, patients receiving treatment for benign pigmented lesions and “laser peels” may experience micro crusting or even sloughing of the skin for a week to ten days.

What is a “good” topical anesthetic for laser?

There are several on the market. LMX–4 can be purchased over the counter. EMLA is similar option but requires a prescription. Many accounts are having their own topical anesthetic compounded at their local compounding pharmacies.
